In view of the current situation that is going through the World, it is necessary to seek positive alternatives, which are able to engage people in preparation for a better world after isolation and also during.
I teach people at a distance how to use computers. The courses, now Distance Learning, require more than cell phones for good learning.
In addition, there is still no Internet FOR EVERYONE in practice.
People, want to take distance learning courses, need them; both for learning and looking for economic alternatives in the face of the pandemic, but also to occupy their heads with something useful.
The most accessible proposal I thought to help my students was:
Ask for donations of used computers. From these computers, with Delinux installed, and some adjustments if necessary; making these computers available free of charge is logical for those most in need, extending the possibility of inclusion in the market;
The second part will be to create wireless networks with shared public access to interconnect these computers. For slow internets, or the lack of them, use Kolibri, a teaching platform that can be used offline, also included in Delinux.
With the arrival of fiber optic networks in small cities through small and medium access providers, these "internet via radio" equipment could be donated to those people who do not have access to the internet to connect to publicly accessible networks.
It's not much, but it can already help my students and many others in Brazil and in the world.
What is the mission of Delinux?
